Welcome to the world of Box of Neutrals!

I just thought I'd add this quick first post to get the new blog officially up and running.

Although I left it to the very last minute to finally make my mind up about my dissertation project proposal, I'm glad in a way that I did give it plenty of thought, because otherwise this game idea of mine probably wouldn't ever have seen the light of day.

OK... it sounds like a rather unconventional concept - trying to theme a simple little racing game on an obscure Australian community radio show, which only broadcasts live  on air 12 weeks of the year and is hosted by three young F1 enthusiasts who talk incessantly about a motorsport that in truth, has very few followers in their home country - it isn't the greatest opening pitch in the world when you state the basic underlying facts, but as a lifelong fan of Formula One I was instantly entertained by the mix of humour, informative, well-researched content and interesting debates that were all coming from like-minded fan perspectives, presented in a professional, yet real down-to earth manner. I've been hooked now for over a year and a half and never miss an episode.

Admittedly the appeal of this game may well be lost on people who have no interest whatsoever in Formula One, and many of the features I wish to incorporate into it will go over the heads of those who pay little attention to the sports inner workings and media circus that surrounds it. On top of all this, I also have to accept that hardly anyone knows or has ever heard of Box of Neutrals, let alone cares that I am making a game about it. My target audience is therefore extremely small and very specific. Rightly or wrongly, I consider this a good thing, as it may well work in my favour in terms of the project aims and objectives I have set myself. We shall see...

With regards to this, I will probably focus on covering the market research I have carried out and compiled so far in my next post so I have something to back up my theory!
